WHAT ABOUT RACISM FACTORS ?
I noticed you picked on an Anglo teacher (John Smith) who had mostly Latino students, who you say did much better with the Latino teacher. The question you need to also ask is whether the students themselves respond better to the Latino teacher because he is Latino & John Smith isn't ? I've been in classrooms over the years myself & am aware of racism by students (either intentional or unintentional racism & prejudice) which can DEFINITELY effect student outcomes.Should we GET RID OF all anglo teachers in Latino schools just because some Latino kids LIKE "their own kind" better? (& because they "like" their "own" better, they do better). If we give in to RACISM (I.e. give the kids whatever or whomever they want to get them them to do better on the tests) then we might as well start hiring Latinos only for Latino students, Anglos only for Anglo students, Asians only for Asian students, etc.
Do you think that's a good idea? & since LAUSD is predominantly Latino, that means getting rid of a lot of Anglo teachers (who worked as hard as anybody else for their college degree(s) & teaching credential) & hiring a lot of Latino teachers (some of whom may know more Spanish or Spanglish but may not even have a full degree or credential).
