10/30/10 HO HO HO BOZO re the REAL MEANING OF HALLOWEEN

hey folks, some of my Christian & Catholic friends, how are y'all on halloween eve ?1. every year I search the web for new explanations of halloween for Christians & always find something new & interesting..so many. stories & theories...but some more credible than others...& here's one that I like @

http://www.wf-f.org/Hallow-Saints.html

...it is aimed at Catholics & emphasizes purgatory, which a lot of protestants don't necc. agree with, & I myself having grown up protestant was taught that purgatory is nonsense, but now, having partially moved in a catholic direction (50/50)...I am somewhat more inclined to think that purgatory makes potential sense...& also allows for more hope...anyways...for those w/ kids wondering how to maintain a sense of Christian integrity around Halloween, this link gives some good ideas & history to share w/ children

10/29/10 re Safeway s. San fran

So I bought a big pumpkin here for halloween & a young lady asks me if I want "help out" w/ my groceries, ha ha. Thanks young lady, but I was a "carry out boy" myself for many years . I think I can handle it. She was being condescending for that matter...I doubt if she could have even lifted the pumpkin by herself anyways.

NEW WEBSITE BY VANDER FOR THE DAILY NEWS

MUSTARD SEED MINISTRY NEWSLETTER, OCTOBER 2010

MUSTARD SEED MINISTRY NEWSLETTER, OCTOBER 2010
10/21/10 Dear friends & family,

Those with whom I've been in email contact for some time now. There comes a time when silence is golden. I will still be posting updates on the web (YouTube, posterous, scribd, etc), albeit perhaps less on YouTube in the future. I will not be corresponding directly by email anymore. My spiritual journey & mission continues (A-Bible, etc). I am proud of what I have accomplished & hope to continue to accomplish...whether the good Lord takes me tomorrow or 50 years from now.

I thank those of you who have been supportive of me by encouragement & prayer. God bless you. I know you will keep me in your prayers & you in mine. As I draw closer & closer to God in my journey it becomes more & more difficult to communicate directly, at least in a "believable" way, to those who are not on the same road. We are all in different stages of our faith journey & that makes a difference in terms of how we see, hear, & believe.

I have done my very best to give people a "physical" look into my life...as "proof" of who I am & what I do as I attend church services, pray, worship, attend events, travel, give away Audio Bibles, create videos, slideshows, go to court to fight unfair seatbelt citations, give homeless people a dollar here & there, do holiday specials (Christ-o-lantern, Christmas tree, Holy Spirit doves, etc). It is not possible to forever give physical, tangible proof of your existence & daily life . But even prior to the advent of making videos & Audio Bibles I was still doing good, excellent, honest things specifically for Christ and/or for the community, including education which also has tangible proof in the form of a transcript (Calvin College, Calvin Seminary, Chaminade Univ. Honolulu, Univ. Of Spain-Denia, Cal State Long Beach, St. Mary's Med Ctr (social work internship), UCLA Med Ctr (chaplain internship), Fuller Seminary, & more).

My journey for the sake of mission to other countries is also recorded in pics, slideshow vids, etc . This includes Costa Rica (x2) (earthquake, teaching, +return visit), Philippines (summer mission + return trip), Spain (educational), Thailand (tsunami), Netherlands (heritage), plus others (Belize, Guatemala, Peru, Bora Bora, etc)

& I've had a few setbacks, hardships, & persecution (things stolen, sabotage, physically assaulted, verbally abused, unappreciated or under-appreciated, etc,,,even as recently as this week I had a flash disc stolen with some travel vid segments: air shows, crusades, etc. But I keep bouncing back & hope for God's presence @ all times. & I know He is always here w/ me, but also that my current mission may some day change...& actually already is subtly shifting in new directions...

Again, I appreciate those of you who have encouraged me & know you are always thinking of me & wishing the best for me. That's all I need to know. The best way for you to keep supporting me is by going out & telling the good news yourself...that's discipleship.Even Jesus couldn't stay w. His disciples forever & I am nothing near to how great Jesus was, Himself, but I try my best to imitate Him in every way.

I may continue to write or give updates in the same way Paul wrote to the believers in various places: Thessalonica, Collosia, Galatia, et. Al.He couldn't be in all places @ all times either, so letters had to suffice.

I've don't my best & will continue to do my best & I encourage you to do likewise. God be with you & bless you at all times & places.....! Keep growing in Christ...trusting, believing, hoping ..

Yours Truly

10/19/10. U SUE the CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL, U SUE GOD, NOT A GOOD IDEA...here's senior Schuller saying his benediction, trademark style on 10/17, 2 days before they filed for bankruptcy, & he will be back up there, again, & again...& again..the church will survive...because the church is the Body of Christ...each congregation a member of the entire worldwide body. These vendors whom the Cathedral owed should know better than to sue the church, or did they just do business with the church because they thought it was a "rich church", nothing more than a successful big business ? If so, they will learn the hard way that you don't sue the church, you don't sue God...its not a good idea...if there's one organization that ALWAYS BOUNCES BACK, its the church...all these vendors did by demanding immediate payment of something the cathedral doesn't have in its pocket is cause the cathedral to file for bankruptcy to save off the creditors...if they only would have believed & trusted...but they got greedy..in fact it may have been greed all along that caused them to do business with the crystal cathedral..God doesn't like greed. the church is not a business, it has heart & soul. God is not a big business. He has heart, soul, & love. You sue the church, you sue God. Not a good idea.

Basil  m: "He is our peace...Jesus is our ...revelation of God..spirit of peace..took flesh..not just being nice, he was nice, but more than that...he was very direct..Jesus was very direct tough..absolute love..by his behavior..healed the sick..he loved them..told the truth..gives us this..formula for peace...loving our enemies..not just nice..find peace..spread peace"  St. Basil Eph 2:12-22 Brothers and sisters: You were at that time without Christ, alienated from the community of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the Blood of Christ For he is our peace, he made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his Flesh, abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile both with God, in one Body, through the cross putting that enmity to death by it. He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. The Lord speaks of peace to his people.  Luke 12.35-38 "Jesus said to his disciples“Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. Moses, therefore, said to Joshua,"Pick out certain men, and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle I will be standing on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand." So Joshua did as Moses told him: he engaged Amalek in battle after Moses had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur. As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest so they put a rock in place for him to sit on. Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset And Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.   R. Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.   2 Tm 3:14-4:2  "Beloved: Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed because you know from whom you learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.   Lk 18:1-8 Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,'Render a just decision for me against my adversary. For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

10/17/10 RAIN DOWN, RAIN DOWN

REMAINING CONNECTED PHYSICALLY & METAPHYSICALLY

LONGER EXPLANATION re
BODY OF CHRIST CONNECTEDNESS

Some people SIMPLY CANNOT think in terms of the "large body of Christ"...here's an ANALOGY my friend...its like my "relatives"..the 2nd peters family...who cannot think of "grandpa's cottage" as the cottage of the "entire peters family"...they really think of the 1st peters family as "invited guests." That's a strict "property right" point of view (I.e. who holds the "title"), & is the opposite of the notion of an "organic connection" whereby people are connected to something in a non-material manner.

The organic connection may be a childhood connection (I.e. I'm the daughter of the original owner & grew up here...) or a "frequency connection" (i e "I have been coming here every summer for 30 years") or a "proximity connection" (I.e. we live 2 houses down...so we sort of have a sense of "care" for the community & inter-connectedness) ....it relates to having (past or present..& past tense usually presumes at least some present form of care & concern...that's what gives one entitlement...care & concern..& being there physically often, but not always, sognifices care & concern...

...but since we can't be  everywhere physically at all times..we do our best to be there META-physically ...which comes from greek meaning "beyond" or "after" the physical. How can we be somewhere without "REALLY BEING THERE" ? Well, we can be there "in prayer" & in letters of care & in some cases just being "aware." Going to an event physically is "being there"..& is usually the highest form of "attending" an event, .but by watching an event on TV you are also "there" metaphysically (you were aware, you could see the atoms that make up a picture to create an image of a baseball field on tv for example, & u could see what happened at the game to a certain extent..by watching on tv you still showed some level of care or concern or interest  albeit at a lesser extent than being there (unless you were at an event but completely un-engaged).

Yet some people live in a non-metaphysical world or mindset all their lives. Back to Nancy Peters (the mother of the 2nd Peters family, the 2nd wife of my grandfather)..she will NEVER understand the notion of the 1st peters family thinking they have any "right" to the cottage "just because" they were the kids of the original owner (her husband, their father). She thinks strictly in terms of property rights & a title & that she needs to give a "invitation" in order for them to come there..in this case its an "open invitation" but still not the same as being part of the same family. Do you tell your child "You are welcome any time". No, of course not, its presumed from the youngest age, based on a instilled sense of LOVE.

The body of Christ is a family..so when we "cross lines" we shouldn't really think of it as going to "their
church" (I.e "let's go to the Jones church this Sunday" would be a wrong way to think of visiting a fellow congregation).  If you are a contributing member of one congregation you are a contributing member of ALL CHRISTIAN CONGREGATIONS..albeit you may not feel the same sense of entitlement...yet nonetheless you have a right to go to another church & if the church is really being a true church it will not treat you not think of you as a  "guest" or "visitor"..but as a fellow "brother" or "sister" . Their church really is your church too, & vice-versa.

That's why to a certai extent, a "welcomer" at a church, while sometimes good, may also sometimes defy the larger sense of the church being the entire Body of Christ. If they say "Welcome to our church" & think of you as a guest when you are a regular member of the body of Christ somewhere then they are NOT being true to the whole body of Christ reality (not a "concept", not a "notion" but a reality). If they don't recognize you as a brother or sister when you are truly a dynamic living member of the Body, then they may be "in the flesh."

In some cases, however, true "newcomers" who don't know Jesus or barely know Jesus may come to church & they are the ones who need a real hearty "welcome."

The analogy to the cottage is NOT PERFECT B/C just because you grew up somewhere or "used to live" somewhere doesn't mean you can go back there any time & make yourself at home. You can't keep a key to the front door if you sold the house & walk in 10 years later ...that's not what I'm saying...but in terms of the church...yes, 10 years later you should be able to walk in during a church service at your "old church" & think without a doubt this is STILL your church (past, present, & future) because it IS

...& the people who attend regularly there shouldn't be thinking "Who is this lady?" They should be thinking "another part of the body of Christ" not a stranger. & the more you INVEST IN BUILDING UP THE BODY OF CHRIST...the more you will feel that sense of organic connection to the larger body. We see less with "eyes of the flesh" & more with "eyes of the spirit" the more we grow & invest in the body of Christ.

People who watch the Crystal Cathedral on TV often make contributions even though they have NEVER BEEN to Garden Grove, yet they are still "members" of the church & if they only physically come one time in their life to the Crystal Cathedral they should be able to walk in there without feeling like a stranger or a guest. The "regulars" who see them as such may be seing too much with eyes "of the flesh" (often intertwined with a "property rights" mindset).

Another example is the school we attend & in which we invested ourselves . A person who attended GRCH but then went off to college is still an "Eagle" & has a certain sense of entitlement to being an Eagle, all the more so if they continue to invest in the school, either financially or by going to events there or sending their kids there, etc.

I know some of my GRCH classmates still live in GR & donate to GRCH OR SEND THEIR KIDS TO GRCH..or teach or coach there..& the more they are involved, the more entitlement they have to the school& the kids. Others may still live in GR but don't contribute to GRCH nor attend games nor show any interest in GRCH anymore, nor send their kids there & they have less, little, or no more real entitlement to GRCH anymore, even less than the person in New York who still contributes, receives & reads newsletters with interest, etc. That can CHANGE, however. JOHN APATHETIC could resume interest at some point in time & regain a sense of entitlemnt, just as the "prodigal son" returned home.

On the other hand just BEING SOMEWHERE PHYSICALLY does NOT always truly give John Doe a true "interest" in the place. There are SECURITY GUARDS who may be at a place physically 360 days a year but they are not truly "invested" emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, etc. In that place as an organic body.

They don't interact in a meaningful way with the people & have NO REAL CARE or CONCERN for people as "whole persons.'  Even some police, for example, may express concern about protecting & saving lives but they don't have or show concern for that person as a WHOLE PERSON. Sure, they might prevent some people from DYING or being KILLED but are they also helping that person TRULY LIVE?

A PHYSICAL CONNECTION ALONE is not proof of care nor should it necessarily always grant a person real honest entitlement. A prostitute may physically connect with a client but is there any CARE (in either direction) for the WHOLE PERSON ?

Usually, however, but not always, the more one physically invests in something (ie. Attends church, goes to school, attends an event) the MORE they will GROW with that "community." But if there is NO TRUE ENGAGEMENT with the "community" its just going thru the motions like some security guards or cops ("just doing their job").

So some people at one point in time have more involvement & therefore entitlement to a community than others, & that is in a constant state of flux & change. RH Schuller is the founder of the CC & obviously has & always will have a certain amount of entitlement to the CC, but that changes too.

He's NO LONGER THERE as much as he used to be & his sense of involvment and therefore entitlement may change (not in terms of "property rights" because he will always maintain an office on the top floor, but in terms of organic connection) . Nobody can maintain a 100% organic connection forever.

Some day "grandpas cottage" might not even be the Peters cottage anymore & the Peters 2 family may understand better at that point the meaning of organic connection...ie...maybe for some reason they will sell it (albeit doubtful)...but they will still have a feeling of care for the old cottage & assume the new owner would treat them with a little more familiarity than random strangers should they stop by 10 years later & say hello.

All the MORE SO we are connected as the Body of Christ. If I am at CHURCH A on Sunday I am helping the Body of Christ & maintain my "right" & investment in the whole body of Christ including CHURCH X & Y 1000 miles away. If I'm NOT going to church at all I have less investment & therefore entitlement to CHURCH A 1 mile away as well as CHURCH Z 1000 miles away.

But we since we can't physically be at ALL CHURCHES from A-Z at all times physically (or "wholly") being at one congregation is better than none & helps keep us connected to ALL, metaphysically.

Likewise PRAYER connects us metaphysically. The MORE WE PRAY for a person or community the MORE we remain connected to them metaphysically & retain our investment & entitlement to them. I personally am CONSTANTLY PRAYING (not just in the ways I show on video..that's only 1% of my prayer life) . & That's also why I am constantly attending different churches,,,to remain connected to the whole body, & they to me.

DO I HAVE TO SAY "PRETTY PLEASE" to get a CHURCH BULLETIN @ CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL ?

Some (too) Old school CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL style remnants:I enter at 925am...the lady at door is handing out the bulletins...elder guy on right shaking hands..I say "Hello young man" to him...he laughs...& I hold out my other hand for a bulletin..but the crabby looking lady doesn't do the "handoff" ..so I wait with my arm extended & she says "Do you want a bulletin?" As if expecting me to say "May I please have a bulletin" like a "nice little boy"...well I don't mind saying please & thanks ..but its sort of expected that they're going to give you a bulletin.
