here at C.O.L.A. (cathedral of our lady of angels, los angeles) where mahoney has been archbishop for many years (decades) now, but is handing over the reins (mandatory retirment) ..each archbishop chooses the symbols they want for their coat-of-arms...mahoney described his coat-of-arms & the symbolic significance of the "cathedra" (I.e. chair) ...before they took down his coat-of-arms, & replaced it with the new coat-of-arms of Jose Gomez...(see next)..I was surprised that Gomez chose a star as one of the symbols for his coat-of-arms, & thought Mahoney was joking when he said it represents the star of Texas. But Gomez did choose the Star for star of Texas because that's where he started as a priest (yet somehow it doesn't seem fitting on a church emblem that is supposed to be trans-national & not concerned with state or natonal citizenship, but concerned about heavemly citizenship.., anyways, let's pray for the best as a new era begins for the catholic church in los angeles,, for the whole message see http://cblogs.posterous.com/22711-cblog-transition-service-cathedral-of-o
