Gay marriage decision on hold...a THEOLOGICAL Q raised by our ethics professor at cal sem is WHETHER non-Christians should be BOUND by judeo-Christian "laws" as all Christians are bound...he raised the question about whether non-elect being not filled w/ the Spirit even have any capacity to "restrain" themselves...Protestant Reformed people would further argue that non-elect aren't even controlled by "general revelation." So the question is whether the Christian "way" is something that should be applied to ALL Or just Christians..
But then the question should be asked if marriage is considered a "sacrament" (which it is by the catholic church, but not protestant )& sanctioned by God for man & woman, how can the state be involved in deciding on the issue of "marriage licenses" at all ? Its a "religious" or church matter which the government doesn't normally involve itself with. The courts & govt have NO BUSINESS in making a theological determination.
Gays can co-habitate, live together, etc...the state should just make a determination of "licensing" their "partnership" which has some impact on their work benefits etc. But to use a theological term "marriage" seems to be crossing the church/state line
