11/7/10 cblog THERE IS MORE to this WORLD than THIS WORLD; st.basil m: "40 years ago..ordained..first parish..got call from young man..he had talked to me when I was studying philosophy in chicago..don't know how he tracked me down in south cal..he was troubled..wanted to know why I believed..had lunch..never saw him again..question raised again..here in maccabees...the lady & 7 sons..did believe..Jesus makes it clear also there is more..the question..why believe..let me share & then do some figuring of your own...dvd's century of war (?)...ugly depressing story..rips u aprt..is ths random evil..or proof of organized evil ..I choose to believe there is a powerful force of evil ..but also good at work..if 2 forces why does evil seem to win..tell u what i think..go back generations..stalin..mussolini..but look at who they gathered to themselves..people like themselves..I don't like that kind of world..looking back, same time mother theresa, schweitzer, ghandi, tom dooley ? , pope paul..how did they do good..look around them they had people who cared, who loved...world where people have love joy..choose to live w/ those u find here every Sunday...is there more to ths world..is there a more powerful force of good..have to choose..back in early 60's I was a novice in a monastery in st. Paul... kansas...I was infected..went to hospital...patients wife asked me if she would be married in heaven...not married but we will know eachother...married coups will know each other..."
2 Macc 7:1-2, 9-14 "It happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested ...for refusing to eat pork in viol of the law...One of the brothers, speaking for the others, said"What do you expect to achieve by questioning us? We are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors." At the point of death he said"You accursed fiend, you are depriving us of this present life but the King of the world will raise us up to live again forever It is for his laws that we are dying." That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called out 'Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;... and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
