12/2/10 RE ONE PART OF MY CONVERSATION with MARJORIE JOSAPHAT @ LAUSD

12/2/10 RE ONE PART OF MY CONVERSATION with MARJORIE JOSAPHAT @ LAUSD

I like Marjorie as a person & respect her very much, but at one point in our conversation at LAUSD on 12/2/10 (with regina echols present) she became a little pretentious & tried to highbrow me, which I didn't appreciate. The conversation was about getting assignments as a substitute teacher, & it turns out they had my seniority mixed up (dating only back to 2005 rather than 1998).

MARJORIE JOSAPHAT said that she thought I would have built up relationships with schools by now so that they would be requesting me, but I told her "I DON'T PLAY THAT GAME." I don't try to make friendships with secretaries in hopes of them calling me or putting me on their "preferred" list. You know HOW SILLY that is ?

The secretaries with associates degrees can decide who they "like" or don't like based on so many miscellaneous, subjective, even discriminatory factors (that has nothing to do, whatsoever, with the quality of education you provide in the classroom)  that in some cases I don't want to be "liked" or "disliked" for the wrong reasons ( I know one particular secretary absolutely hates me because she knows I am a straight, "white" Christian).

I don't want to play a popularity contest to try to get a secretary to like me & for that matter, all the secretaries are female, & mostly Latino, or African-American. Truth is, a lot of secretaries prefer or favor other substitutes because they are simply of their own race and/or gender . I can't change my race, skin color, or gender, nor do I want to "kiss up" to a secretary with an associates degree simply to get her to like me & call me for assignments. That's very emasculating.

My FAITH plays a large part in who I am and my confidence as a person & teacher & I'm NOT "subbing" for money. I prefer quality over quantity and will take less, or no, assignments if it means keeping myself mentally & emotionally "fit" to be in a demanding classroom setting. I will be respectful to all people & secretaries, but will not emasculate myself to get a job.
