DOES SCIOSCIA INTENTIONALLY TRADE AWAY HIS AGGRESSIVE WHITE PLAYERS ?
This is just my thought. I haven't read it anywhere else but observed it anecdotally. Three aggressive Anglo Angels who were traded away & are doing fairly well elsewhere are Casey Kotchman, John Lackey, & Mike Napoli. I'm sure there are others that I haven't thought about, and certainly there are many other good players of other ethnicity or skin color who have been traded, but I wondered if Scioscia gets a little intimidated especially by aggressive white players more than others. With persons of "color" there's still enough establishment racism that Scioscia can "handle" them if they get "too big for their britches", but with white guys he's between a rock & a hard place. I noticed that Lackey was traded away after his brief tirade against Scioscia during the playoffs, when Mike pulled him, almost disastrously, despite Lackey indicating he wanted to stay in the game. And I think Lackey was still in control and should have been left in. As for Napoli & Kotchman, I always thought they could have been used more, & that they had a lot of spark. Does this intimidate Mike? Is Mike making moves for his own personal control as much as, or more so, than the betterment of the team ? Napoli, as we all know went to the rival Rangers & is doing quite well. In fact he homered at least twice in the 4-game series v Angels just this week (ending August 20, 2011) .
