ATTENDING BASEBALL GAMES for me began as a way to study the WORD of GOD... I had recently completed semindary education and had TONS of notes & notebooks and papers, etc, but everything was all discombobulated in my mind... so I took my notes with me to ballgames & sat up in the top & also had the Bible on my handheld device & spend time reading the Word & my theology notes and also praying up there in the top, often as far away as I could get. In fact, at times I had a "good ticket' for close to the action and I would go up top to a "cheap seat" and sit there & study & pray, and it was GOOD ...and i called it pray-by-play
...and it actually culminated at the World Series itself in San Francisco, talk about a CLIMAX to an incredible season... even though Giants were not my #1 team, they became my #1 team after the three other California teams I was rooting for fell apart and didn't make the playoffs. I was able to watch the first two games of the World Series thru the viewing box in centerfield at AT&T Park, and also attended the incredible World Series parade in San Francisco. Now, in 2011 I have continued studying God's Word in the stands mostly at Angels games (actually don't enjoy going to Dodger games for reasons most people know )
...plus I also started doing evangelism outside these ballparks, beginning with little evangelical cards & culminating with Audio Bible CD's.. in some cases the entire Bible in English recorded in my voice on one CD ! That was a big project. Now I do smaller CD's with New Testament chapters on CD's (rather than cramming the entire Bible on one CD which is poorer quality and cannot be played in the car, only on computer) . I also do Bible CD's in other languages and post them online, here on posterous.
It's now September 2011 and I have continued covering mostly Angels games (they still have some hope, 3 1/2 games behind rangers, but they have to keep winning) This project actually begin back in 2008, and moved into 2009 when I took a cross-country trip and visited as many ballparks as I could along the way, including the new Yankee Stadium, as well as Boston's great old park on 4th of July, among many others (Rockies, Royals, Pirates, Orioles, Indians, Brewers, et. al).
There's a lot of analogy between the game of baseball and the "game of Christian living" ... or the journey of faith.. you get knocked down, you strike out, you make an error, but you get back up again, and again, ..& again..you don't quit until the manager (God) pulls you out of the game. Otherwise, you keep giving it all you got ! Evangelically speaking, this means we continue shining the light and bringing the Good News to the world until our manager takes us to a better place ! Keep the Faith, my friends !
