11/4/11 AN ELDERLY LADY ASKED 4 A RIDE AT CHURCH..knock knock knock on my window..startles me as I start my car, I had jus left noon mass at blessed sacrament on sunset in hollywood..nobody ever talks to me there...soim ondering who could this be..its raining hard..I figur it must be the parking man (they charge non-church goers for parking..maybe he thought I didn't go to mass) ..but it turns out to he this elderly lady..I put the window down..and she says "Can I have a ride?"a ride? where? i m thinking she's got dementia..probably not lucid, ..but how could I turn her down in a church parking lot, after a message about helping others ? she can't be dangerous for that matter..I doubt she intends to rob me with a gun..& its raining..she's getting wet..my only other excuse is "too much stuff in my car" and that used to be true when I was driving the wagon, but now in my new vehicle..it's still crowded, but I can clear. room for people to sit.& be the good samaritan...so no excuses, I say sure, not knowing where I'm taking her..we start to drive...I ask "what way" and she points..and after a little conversation..irealize she is completely lucid..she mentions being from the Philippines, I tell her I've been there..(did a mission there, summer of '92, went back for a few weeks in '04) ..she knows the address where we are going..I google map it to make sure..she knows the churches in the area .....says her husband is in the philippines at the moment..mentions having 3 boys...she asks where I'm from ..I say "here" and she says "Oh, so you can be president?" ha ha..that's right, I can be, & am a candidate (on paper anyways,(FEC) altho I haven't been invited to a debate yet)..& I find her apartment & help her out..with her big box...I thought she was homeless and that the  big box was for sleeping in, figured id be dropping her off on a corner somewhere, but she has an apartment & the box was for clothes she said she was sending to the Philppines..how 'bout that?!..probably the bigger danger these days in giving anybody a ride is having it mischaracterized...if it was a young woman or child, I would be looked upon suspiciously..isn't that a shame? I admire this lady's courage to trust me.God bless her.
