Oh, no, my friend, if u do something WRONG u should just ADMIT IT...not play "legal games" to "get out of" something..that wasn't my point at all...no way..if I do something wrong I do the MANLY THING & say so..I don't try to WEASEL OUT of something..heck no..never.
.I did NOT get up in front of court & falsely claim I WAS WEARING my seatbelt & that the officer was wrong..I was there to show the officer, himself, is the WEASEL...FOR writing seatbelt citations...in a very commercial area with lots of businesses & people are coming out of one parking lot & into the next (doing errands)...& that it defies the intent of the law & the spirit of the law (which is purported to be our own safety) to nitpick when it is not truly related to our safety & welfare.
The officer himself admitted the police dept is having a "tighter budget" than usual. & the lady before me was also contesting a seatbelt citation from officer storey..who gave her a ticket as she was waiting in a line of cars to pick up her kid from school (her "special kid", w/ autism)...(she also was from Pakistan & wore a sash of some sort & said the officer couldn't see the seatbelt behind the sash)
The officer also admitted he took an oath to uphold the constitution. That was my other point...to talk about the fact that a seatbelt is a safety device for one alleged purpose, to protect ONLY the person wearing it, & the state/country rarely gets into the "business" of enforcing self-protective devices, especially without allowing for a religious exemption .*
Jehovah's Witness, for example,can refuse a blood transfusion, even at the risk of their life, for religious reasons . There are certain religious objections to mandatory shots of one kind or another. In some organizations you can request a religious exemption from paying union dues because many Christians do not believe in unions (I myself inquired about this when I joined LAUSD ) & so it behooves the state to allow a person to NOT wear their seatbelt even if its at a person's own risk.
Have you ever gone to a public beach where a sign says, "SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK." That's the state (or city) saying they are not liable if you get hurt or drown.....that they do not have lifeguards at this beach & you must make your own decision whether you want to risk your life or not. Likewise, I contend we should be allowed to "DRIVE WITHOUT A SEATBELT AT OUR OWN RISK."
The argument that seatbelts saves lives & also keeps insurance costs down (as well as costs of emergency responders) is specious..because even , sad but true, BAD ACCIDENTS & death have an ECONOMIC BENEFIT. There are people whose livelihood depends upon people dying or getting hurt . If NOBODY died they would go out of business or be unable to pay a mortgage.
..So if the state is so interested in protecting insurance costs or costs of paramedics & fire crews (who they claim end up "prying" people out of windshields b/c they didn't have their seatbelts on...at so much more cost)...then they are doing so at the expense of funeral homes, hospitals, etc..I.e. morticians, doctors, nurses, chaplains, coroner, etc . Arguing the economic reason becomes meaningless, as you can see. If one wins, the other loses & vice-versa.
There is also LACK OF STATISTICAL EVIDENCE To support the efficacy of the seatbelt safety argument. The #'s have NOT been convincing (I will send you some of the stats I came across). There's also the possibility (supported by the stats) that wearing a seatbelt actually makes people drive LESS SAFELY (remember risk-compensation theory?)...& more pedestrians & bikers get hit.
I believe, for good reasons mentioned above, & others not mentioned (don't have that much time right now) that the seatbelt law is a TOTAL SCAM & a money-making machine for the state ; & that their failure to allow for a religious objection/exemption (I.e. I'm Christian & believe & trust in the providence of God..if its my time, its my time..just as I don't want to be kept on life support if I am brain dead) makes it all the more a scam.
I also didn't like the way Officer Storey treated me on the street & that added to my indignation. He admitted he calls people by their first name & I added, "in a condescending manner...?" to which he did not respond.
*(& apart from religious exemptions the state allows people to engage in activities that are a known risk to their own health: cigarette smoking is but one example that is still allowed by the state despite definite risks to health & which increases insurance premiums, fills needed hospital beds, etc)

That's one thing they really should REQUIRE for "college kids"...basic auto mechanics 101 . I learned all about psychology, English, literature, history of psychology, history of English, philosophy, world history, phys ed, ..philosophy of education, anthropology, educational psychology, statistics, a little math & science, ...later church history, greek, hebrew, a class devoted solely to the tiny book of Amos, hermeneutics, apologetics, new & old testament classes, psalms, theology in film, evangelism...& the list goes on..also basics of social work (1 semester) & even a little bit of law (less than a semester).
...but IN ALL THAT TIME I NEVER LEARNED the basics of auto repair & for a while could barely change my own tire let alone do an oil change (actually, I could do it but didn't have the basic tools or gumption to do it. Key word: "gumption." A lot of the expensive stuff we pay auto workers to is fairly simple, but takes a few tools & some gumption (willingness to get hands dirty, get under the car, etc)... A basic AUTO REPAIR 101 in college would give "college boys" the gumption & a little extra know-how needed to avoid the sleazy mechanics.
Same thing with POLICE 101: I wish colleges would offer a basic primer in what police learn as police academy, including some gun target practice. Sure, I learned how to handle a gun in Michigan because I went deer & goose hunting, but a little more would be good, plus some of the "insider" jargon & codes in basic police work. I had to learn on the fly when I sued Pasadena PD.

The ADULT INDUSTRY LURES POOR GIRLS BY MAKING THEM FEEL INSTANTLY RICH
U SEE the pornography business takes POOR GIRLS & makes them feel instantly rich & "famous" & even loved or liked...& for what ? For "mechanically" going thru the motions of sex (something they like anyways,not so bad, they think)...
& it feels good (for a while)...but it becomes a trap & can't feel very edifying forever..its the initial feeling of financial freedom from poverty that lures them...in some ways there's a certain "honesty" about them...they are willing to say "this life [in poverty] sucks"...(which a lot of 9-to-5 clerks are trying to deny...& sometimes end up oppressing others...& denigrating people who have become successful as "born with a silver spoon..." or "advantaged"..etc...) & are honest enough to admit they want "out" of poverty; unfort. they want the quick way out, like winning the lotto.
..& the problem is that they still don't gain true freedom that comes from (good) education combined w/ faith living..after the initial thrill of financial independence & the attention they might get from being in the porn business wears off they have nothing else to fall back on..they are still STUCK... when I saw this gal I could sense she was coming to that realization...& wished I could have helped her...
...that's what initially drew me to public education...I saw so many poor Latinos & wanted to help them..but once inside the schools a lot of them lose their "hunger" for getting out of the status quo & to admit "this sucks." Here's a girl who is at least willing to be honest & say "poverty sucks", but is still taking a wrong-way turn...she's HALF-RIGHT...poverty does suck...& is doing as much as she knows how to right a wrong...
Whereas some of the kids I work with aren't willing to say POVERTY SUCKS...& will not push themselves to achieve academically, the only real way out. So they aren't even half-right & are suppressing all their feelings as well...but they may be half-right in knowing that doing porno isn't the way to right a wrong.

A LOT Of auto-repair jobs are as SIMPLE as CHANGING A LIGHTBULB, but take a few extra tools & time...& most of us feel uncomfortable around car engines...like its brain surgery ..& we also have better & more important things to do most of the time...but the mechanics who sit around all day working on cars work ONLY on cars...& the car engine becomes very "SIMPLE" To them..(the same way playing the piano seems so easy to those who master it but so amazing to those who don't know how; or how easy flying a plane seems to those who took pilot lessons but somewhat heroic to those of us who havent; or even how amazing a mother driving a car seems to a 5-year-old ...). We all have at least one or two talents or skills or simply a dedication to something that seem amazing to somebody, but most of us don't use that to profit unjustly off of others.
...yet when the so-called "average citizen" (mother, housewife, student, salesman, even a teacher or preacher) comes in with a problem...they think a LOT OF US ARE IDIOTS to be willing to pay so much for "changing a lightbulb'...
...& so they come up with FALSE NOTIONS of why we are so stupid (or lazy)..& proceed to justify over-charging us because we are stupid or lazy or whatever comes to their mind...U see CRIMINALS usually justify their crimes by first making their victim "deserve it" (in their mind...I.e. She definitely had that "jaded" look & was in that part of town & dressed that way too...& the way she caught my eye when she came in (to starbucks)..u could tell she was a person who knows how to "get down to business..."...that can be good or bad...in this case not so good...not to cast judgment on her..
...she's a victim to a certain extent & prob doesn't even realize she's trapped (yet)...they prob give her just enough money & clothes to make her feel as if she's doing well for herself...

"I don't need your help, Christian man..get lost")..yet at the same time..she did have a certain "receptiveness" about her as if she wanted to be approached..(or approached by "prince charming" but not boring Christian man, ha ha )...so maybe I should have taken the chance

& It really is a CORRUPT CITY..not made up of citizens that truly care about each other...& too many of the immigrant groups have only one question in mind: What's in it for me? You get quickly clumped & categorized into people groups by which you are treated "categorically" & lose all individuality & self-expression (in the corrupt eyes u r an "Male African-American" or a "female Asian" or a "male caucasian"...& only different slightly in terms of profession or social status). The kangaroo courts & system of injustice doesn't help, including the police, various attorneys, & even some of the judges. If you have a problem, an incident, or are even a victim of crime, be wary about reporting it. Depending upon who takes the report 9-f they take one) & how it gets communicated thru the system it may make things worse.
The public education system is so perplexed, confused, & lost & a dwelling place for too many lazy "staff workers" it may be making the students worse than better & if you are a "bright spot" don't let anybody know it ( the people who make sure we are all "equal" will quickly show u how unequal they can be in the name of "equality.")
The church in some areas is a hidden bright spot...it can be a safe place of refuge, but not all pastors or priests can be trusted. You have to work to find the good ones & safe places.
If somebody asked me whether they recommend they move to Los Angeles, what do you think my answer would be? Why do I stay? Because I'm NOT "living" here, I'm a missionary here. Its the ONLY reason for hope...& I keep trying to spread the good news even if only 1 in a million listen to me. Please PRAY 4 me.

So I left the mechanic & went to Incarn church & am just sitting in the pew an hour b/f the service...it calms me down..a few others in here...God bless them..suddenly I hear some yelling..keeps going..so I peek out the door & two guys are arguing...in each others face...something about hitting the other car door..(when he opened it?/.)..no damage evident...but then suddenly the tall guy starts slugging the small guy...(I may have caught it on video but haven't checked yet)...
They're two cars away from mine..& I stand by my car...the small guy says, "did you see that ?" I didn't see everything..maybe the small guy did something first..tall guy says small guy stomped on his foot...
They keep yelling..& small guys friend drives up..now 2 against 1..so I keep watching to intervene if need be..they seem to resolve it..so I walk back into church & peek thru the door...

SHOULD have know better than to go to the ARMENIANS...those bastards...I went to one mechanic who recommended this guy named "Rafi"...so I drove over to Broadway St....& they checked out my car & recommended trying spark plugs first...so I said "go ahead"....that shouldn't be so much...& so they ordered spark plugs...took a LONG TIME to get them..so I sat in the office working on my computer...changing a set of plugs is NOT a big job..not difficult..but then they come in & say the spark plugs didn't help..that one of the cylinders is bad...that I basically need a new engine...but he still wants to charge me for new spark plugs + 50 for the labor...I said $50 ?..
& he said, "How long have u been sitting here...?" Suddenly his English isn't so good..Armenians play the "no speak English" game too sometimes..I had been sitting there over an hour but THEY HADN'T BEEN WORKING ON MY CAR for an hour..they ordered spark plugs...& waited..& worked on another car...those bastards..every now & then u relax & think you found somebody u can trust...& u get burned again..its RACISM...SO MUCH RACISM..anyways I had withdrawn $100 from my account knowing I was going to be shopping around today for a mechanic...

12159 Branford St: DISAPPOINTING: I went back to this mechanic who changed my water pump LESS than a year ago...he seemed ;"hungry" for work at the time..this time..he said come back around noon..went back at noon..he had another guy working w/ him...told the other guy to take a look at it...the other guy..not very communicative..took it for a test drive...returned..didn't say anyything to me..went over to oscar..then oscar came over & said...we need more time..need to let it cool down....(it wasn't that hot..had only driven it a few miles)...his disposition had changed..he seemed lazy..didn't seem to really want to work on it..so I left saying "maybe ..." but didn't really think so..." I was upset b/c I wasted half the day thinking he was going to get right onit @ noon...but he didn't really care I guess...nonetheless..I called back on the cell phone after leaving...& he answered after many rings...& I said "I don't think I can get back..." & was about to say "I was disappointed...after u said come back at noon...I thought u were being sincere..." but he said something...& then said "buddy.." & then the phone cut off..I tried calling back & he didn't answer..that's latino culture..very unpredictable in their temperment & attitude..FELT LIKE it was RACE-RELATED :(

..she was so sad & depressed & filled w/ bitterness..when she saw my SD hat she verbally attacked me, not in a good-hearted way, but in a definitely angry, bitter manner...beyond what any sport or game should instill in a "fan". she actually said, "Get out of here" as if she had the right to tell anybody where to go...& I didn't start the conversation, she did...I was passing thru trying to find a place to take a picture..that sad pathetic lady...& white for that matter..

It was DISTURBING like that Cubs Fan who so quietly came up to me just after the padres lost & said "Who won?" Somewhat detached emotionally, but definitely interested in the outcome...Its an EERY kind of interaction...this raiders guy was doing the same...so quiet & calm but definitely an angry, surly, disposition..(also drunk)..somewhat detached but definitely invested in the outcome..it makes me think of people who can calmly murder others ...something wrong w/ them..sure be HAPPY FOR YOUR own team's positive outcomes but leave it at that. When I have a favorite team, I am simply hoping they WIN, not so much that the other team LOSES..& if we win I'm NOT rubbing it in their face, saying "You suck..go home.." etc. That's poor sportsmanship. Just be happy if your team wins, & if they don't just accept it AS IS...

I go back in the store & tell the clerk & he knows pump 5 has no pump/hose..& repeats what the other guy tells me..am I talking to mentally challenged dudes or what? HOW MUCH re PERSONAL LIFE SHOULD A STUDENT DISCUSS IN A COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY ?
A student gave me her paper to proof-read yesterday ...tthey were working on college application essays...so she started her essay talking about her family & how she discovered her dad was having sex with her aunt (who was living with them)...& when she confronted her dad he beat her..later they got divorced..she wrote...so I made a few grammar corrections & handed it back to her...
but I was thinking...1) you don't want to become too "graphic" in a college application essay, but I suppose its good to be candid ..& also 2) is this true ? Sometimes kids make things up for strange reasons &3) if it is true its pretty sad, but 4) don't make it the only thing u talk about in a college application.
..so I said to the whole class, "Its okay to talk about hardships..espec overcoming harships, but you don't want too sound too conflicted..."...so a student asked me if she should talk about psychological therapy she apparently underwent, & I said, "Sure, its ok, but you never know how it might be misunderstood by the person readng it...if you sound too emotionally unstable...." of course I'm thinking "old school" & calvin college...maybe these days it doesn't matter, IDK
