I didn't "come to L.A." applying "Michigan standards" for living & teaching. I was already "in L.A.' even when I was growing up in Michigan by virtue of the fact that my dad actually had an "L.A. MINDSET";...that is, because my dad was raised here in Los Angeles back in 1936, despite being in Michigan during my youth, he had already set the tone in our home. It was a "nether world" feeling because he still thought of "home" as being in Bellflower, not in Grand Rapids. It wasn't just visiting grandpa in southern California in the late 60's & 70's, it was Jim not being "wholly" with us, in mind & spirit, in Grand Rapids. Part of him was already, or still, here in southern Cal. Thus we inherited some of his "nether world' (another world) mindset.
