11/17/11 LISTEN TO ROB EKNO MAKE his 1st of 2 SPEECHES re CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL ISSUES @ BANKRUPTCY COURT ...mr. ekno is the current leader of the homeless ministry at the crystal cathedral. He mentions he, himself, was homeless at one point in time. He mentions that his daughter's grandmother was an original member ..he mentions John Crean (see http://www.ocregister.com/articles/crean-57032-years-john.html ) who made a $1 million dollar contribution to helpbuild the crystal cathedral & that appparently somebody in his family or somebody speaking for them said that if the CC becomes catholic they would move his body to another cemetery because it would no longer be a "catholic cemetery." I thought that was a bit crass to suggest that there's a meaningful difference between a catholic, protestant, or even a secular cemetery. For that matter, if you're a hardcore protestant, you don't believe in purgatory nor prayer for the departed,...you believe at death that its either instant heaven or hell. Hence, where your body lies after deat is even more irrelevant for protestants than catholics who believe there is still a chance to change or influence a deceased's eternal destiny after death via prayer & with the help of purgatory. I just got the feeling that Ekno & his small group had ulterior motives in pushing for a chapman buyout rather than catholic. The CC attorney, Winthrop, expressed befuddlement as well, saying the choice of the catholic diocese would ensure the cathedral remains a church. These fellows were expressing themselves as if the catholic church was the enemy of protestants. I even heard them praying before the hearing and one of them said "We don't want the catholics..." I couldn't believe it. If they went thru the membership process as required to be leaders at certain levels they must learn the creeds of the Reformed Church, which includes the Nicene creed, & which is very clear about our unity with the Catholics. & I heard James Richards mention "spiritual warfare"...not sure in what regard but it sounded as if aimed at catholics. I have to wonder if they've ever been to a catholic church service, or if they know how extensive the catholic church is around the world. Minus corruption, the catholic church has the greatest potential to do the greatest good. If the protestants & catholics could truly unite, the positive force of the worldwide unified church would be staggering.
